We surveyed several coaches in the area and these are some teams to keep an eye on in the 2023 season.
Division 1
Top Teams
Highland– The Hornets return their entire State Tournament lineup with even more experience
Magnificat– With the deepest roster in the area, Magnificat will be a power again this year
State Hopefuls
Aurora– The return of Brooklyn Millard and the emergence of Gracyn Vidovic will propel Aurora
Hathaway Brown– Dixon Hill alone makes HB a contender and Blake Cody will be another player to watch
Hoover– Experience plus youth will be a good formula for the Vikings in 2023
Hudson– With a lot of experience returning and some young talent coming up, Hudson looks to contend
Nordonia– Julia Gulla and Brooke Barnes will lead the Knights this year
Jackson– The Polar Bears seem to be in the running every year, and have a budding star in Cara Murphy
Kent Roosevelt– Maddie Kost will be the leader of a team that is always playing their best when it counts
Stow– The two Berlingieri sisters are a solid foundation and Sophia Thompson will be a factor this year
Strongsville– With as good of a one-two punch as anyone, the Mustangs will have their voices heard
Walsh Jesuit– The Warriors have built up a very relevant squad this year with both youth and experience
District Contenders
Avon Lake– Every year, Avon Lake consistently brings a solid team and contends
Canfield– The Cardinals will have a lot of young, developing talent which will help them for several years
Lake– Although the Blue Streaks don’t have a superstar player, they have a lot of really good contributors
Medina– With a great amount of senior leadership, the Bees will be a balanced, competitive team
Rocky River– Chloe Holton and Mia Ginetti have both had strong summers and look to carry it to the fall
Solon– Serena Wu will be a standout player this fall and will look to lead the Comets to a successful season
St. Joseph Academy– The Jaguars are surrounding Gianna Reginelli with some young talent
Other Contenders
Avon– The Eagles have to overcome some big losses to graduation and will turn to their next wave
Brunswick– Under new leadership, the Blue Devils are building something special, but may be a year away
Dover– With plenty of past success to build on, Dover will look to impact the NE District again in 2023
GlenOak– The Golden Eagles have a foundation of talented players who are looking to take the next step
Green– Always a team to watch out for, Green’s young talent will need to step up and may do just that
Revere– The Minutemen will be young but are a team with a lot of upside
Streetsboro– The Rockets may be an under-the-radar contender this year
Division 2
Top Teams
Independence– Under a new coach, the Blue Devils should be able to continue their winning tradition
St. Vincent-St. Mary– The Irish return a very talented team led by senior Raygan Hoover
State Hopefuls
Canton South– The Wildcats are a team that is ready to jump to the next level
Chagrin Falls– A solid team with a good amount of depth
Edgewood– Even losing their top scorer to graduation, Edgewood is still a team that can make a splash
Southeast– Gracie Westover and Taylor Blazek are a fantastic top two players
Ursuline– The Irish will need to take a big step under their new coach, but they will still be a contender
District Contenders
Champion– Kennady Grace and Kayla Haynie will be the key players as Champion competes in 2023
Columbia– Taylor Kuhrt will lead by example as the young Raiders will look to improve throughout the year
Columbiana– Always a contender from the Youngstown area, the Clippers have good numbers and talent
Laurel– Siena Maschke is a superstar and will lead the Gators throughout her senior campaign
Perry– The Pirates have more depth than most D2 teams and will look to use that to their advantage
West Branch– The Warriors have Shaylee Muckleroy leading at the top and will look to their other scorers
Other Contenders
Berkshire– The Badgers don’t have the star quality as some teams but they have depth
Cuyahoga Heights– Under new leadership, Cuyahoga Heights looks to compete in the postseason
East Canton– With all their talent returning and some new talent rising, East Canton is a team to watch
Field– With just a little bit of improvement, Field is a team that could surprise some people
Hawken– It will be impossible to replace Ella Wong, but her legacy will help develop young talent
LaBrae– The Vikings will be competitive because they have four players who can post solid scores
Lake Catholic– The Cougars are good at developing talent and could be good now and in the future
Poland– The Bulldogs are another deep program who have enough talent to make an impact
