State Hopefuls
Aurora– The return of Brooklyn Millard and the emergence of Gracyn Vidovic will propel Aurora
Hathaway Brown– Dixon Hill alone makes HB a contender and Blake Cody will be another player to watch
Hoover– Experience plus youth will be a good formula for the Vikings in 2023
Hudson– With a lot of experience returning and some young talent coming up, Hudson looks to contend
Nordonia– Julia Gulla and Brooke Barnes will lead the Knights this year
Jackson– The Polar Bears seem to be in the running every year, and have a budding star in Cara Murphy
Kent Roosevelt– Maddie Kost will be the leader of a team that is always playing their best when it counts

Strongsville– With as good of a one-two punch as anyone, the Mustangs will have their voices heard
Walsh Jesuit– The Warriors have built up a very relevant squad this year with both youth and experience

District Contenders
Avon Lake– Every year, Avon Lake consistently brings a solid team and contends
Canfield– The Cardinals will have a lot of young, developing talent which will help them for several years
Lake– Although the Blue Streaks don’t have a superstar player, they have a lot of really good contributors
Medina– With a great amount of senior leadership, the Bees will be a balanced, competitive team
Rocky River– Chloe Holton and Mia Ginetti have both had strong summers and look to carry it to the fall
Solon– Serena Wu will be a standout player this fall and will look to lead the Comets to a successful season
St. Joseph Academy– The Jaguars are surrounding Gianna Reginelli with some young talent

Other Contenders
Avon– The Eagles have to overcome some big losses to graduation and will turn to their next wave
Brunswick– Under new leadership, the Blue Devils are building something special, but may be a year away
Dover– With plenty of past success to build on, Dover will look to impact the NE District again in 2023
GlenOak– The Golden Eagles have a foundation of talented players who are looking to take the next step
Green– Always a team to watch out for, Green’s young talent will need to step up and may do just that
Revere– The Minutemen will be young but are a team with a lot of upside
Streetsboro– The Rockets may be an under-the-radar contender this year

Division 2

Top Teams
Independence– Under a new coach, the Blue Devils should be able to continue their winning tradition

Other Contenders
Berkshire– The Badgers don’t have the star quality as some teams but they have depth
Cuyahoga Heights– Under new leadership, Cuyahoga Heights looks to compete in the postseason
East Canton– With all their talent returning and some new talent rising, East Canton is a team to watch
Field– With just a little bit of improvement, Field is a team that could surprise some people
Hawken– It will be impossible to replace Ella Wong, but her legacy will help develop young talent
LaBrae– The Vikings will be competitive because they have four players who can post solid scores
Lake Catholic– The Cougars are good at developing talent and could be good now and in the future
Poland– The Bulldogs are another deep program who have enough talent to make an impact

Crown Conference Preview

In the final year of the Crown Conference, Walsh Jesuit is the heavy favorite to take home another conference title. The Warriors are returning all their scoring players from last year and are very high on incoming freshman Yumi Kohara. Walsh Jesuit was disappointed in their Sectional finish last year and will look to make that up in 2023. Lake Catholic and Beaumont are both in positions to be better than last year. NDCL will look to rebuild under new head coach Tiger Alexander. Padua will look to replace most of their roster, as they had a multitude of seniors graduate last season.

Impact Players

Claire Brazalovics (SR) Beaumont
Annie Cors (SR) Walsh Jesuit

Coach Comments- We lost our #1 player Lauren Olenik who graduated, but our new team captain Theresa Lazanich is working hard and is poised to be a premier player in the region this year! Sophomores Emma and Ella are working hard at their games and will also be players to watch this season. Seniors Kayla and Alex enter their third year on the team and are steadily improving golfers so we have a great core group to remain competitive this year. I am truly excited about the new crop of players listed as new varsity players, all of whom show tremendous potential and desire to become solid golfers!

Notre Dame-Cathedral Latin Lions

Head Coach- Tiger Alexander
Last Year’s Results- 13th at Old Avalon Sectional
Coach Comments- Our short-term goal this season is to create a positive and competitive environment for the student-athletes to compete in. Our long-term goal is to be competitive at the District and regional levels. That said, our student-athletes have been putting in work this off-season with their private instructors, gearing up for this upcoming season.

Padua Bruins

Head Coach- Patrick Dailey
Last Year’s Results- 13th at Springvale Sectional

Walsh Jesuit Warriors

Head Coach- Bill Reilly, PGA

Coach Comments- Our ladies are realizing that they belong in the District and State Tournaments and with the addition of Yumi Kohara (9) they may well do something about that! With Annie Stencel’s experience and Co-Captain Annie Cors there is a big upside to 2023.

Federal League Preview

The Federal League has historically been one of the most competitive conferences in the state of Ohio. While a couple traditional powers were in a rebuilding phase, the Hoover Vikings made a trip to Columbus and the Lake Blue Streaks had one of their best finishes in a long time. Hoover will have a chance to return to the State Tournament. Lake will have to rely on some younger players to step up. Perennial powers Jackson and Green will also look to get back to the top of the conference. GlenOak brings back a good amount of talent on their roster. Perry could be on the upswing under new coach Dan Pierce and Canton McKinley will also look to make strides in 2023.

The Columbiana Clippers have been the dominant team in their area over the last several years and are the heavy favorites to win the EOAC this season. The most impressive player in the conference, however, is United’s Mati Zines, who was the medalist at the District Tournament and finished 11th in the Division II State Tournament in Columbus. Western Reserve Conference Preview

With the departure of Madison, the Western Reserve Conference will be down to five teams in 2023. Kenston is the defending champion but will need to surround returning player Annika Tutzer with some young talent in order to repeat. Mayfield finished second, but lost team leader Jillian Gambino to graduation. Incoming freshman Julie Paradise has good talent, but Gambino leaves big shoes to fill. Eastlake North returns District qualifier Lauren Iannetta and will challenge Kenston and Mayfield for the league crown. Chardon also will make their voice heard in the WRC as they will have potentially the deepest team in the conference. Willoughby South also has a chance to have an impact in the conference if they can find some improvement from last year. The WRC looks to be wide open for the taking this year and will prove to be one of the better conference races to watch.

Greater Cleveland Conference Preview

The Greater Cleveland Conference will look a little different in 2023 after Solon departs to the Suburban League while Cleveland Heights and Shaker Heights join after leaving the Lake Erie League. Strongsville should be the heavy favorite to win the conference behind Natalie Kostalnick and Hannah Lee, two very strong players who could dominate the league tournaments. Medina brings in a very balanced team with a lot of depth while Brunswick is starting to produce a young core of players. Brunswick will also see new coaches Chad Thompson and Colin Smith bring some energy into their program. Shaker Heights is an interesting team to watch with some potential. Mentor will need to find a way to replace graduated senior Bella Lundi. Cleveland Heights is still working on establishing a program identity under coach Fiona Connor and will look to take a step forward in a new, more competitive conference.

Coach Comments- We are extremely excited about the progress our three varsity returners are making this offseason. What is even more encouraging is the work that our underclass players are putting in. They are setting the tone for our future success as a program and we are excited to see them all progress this upcoming season. We have been fortunate to be able to challenge ourselves from a scheduling standpoint as well, increasing the opportunities that we get to play against the best competition in Northeast Ohio. We are looking forward to competing some of the new tournaments we have been invited to this season, and are appreciative of those coaches that have included our girls in their events.

Shaker Heights Raiders

Head Coach- Joe Welsch
Last Year’s Results- 12th at Fox Den Sectional, 4-4 and won the LEL, Emily Lamb made it to Districts as an Individual.
Coach Comments- “Us vs Us”. Emily Lamb finished first out of the individuals at the Sectional Tournament to advance to Districts. If things go her way, she could find herself in the mix again to make the next step to States. We had 3 out of 5 girls shoot their best round of the year at Sectionals, so we have a lot to be excited about and a lot to build from.

Strongsville Mustangs

Head Coach- Kevin Weir
Last Year’s Results- 2nd at Springvale Sectional, 9th at Districts, Varsity went 5-1 in 9 hole matches. Won the GCC for the 2nd year in a row by sweeping all 3 18 hole tournaments. Won the Lady Rider AM Flight Tournament and the Lady Explorer AM Flight Tournament.
Coach Comments- The girls are eager to try for a third consecutive GCC Title, but know filling the void by the 3 seniors who left last year will be no easy task, but they are up for the challenge.
