After the end of an amazing era under Krystine Frisch, the Avon Lake Shoregals will be under the leadership of Kevin Fitch, who returns to the team that he coached nearly a decade ago. The Shoregals were extremely successful under Fitch and he hopes he can both pick up where he left off and where Coach Frisch left off in 2024. Avon Lake has won seven of the last ten conference championships and will have to work hard to win in 2025. The Southwestern Conference appears to be a three team race this upcoming season, as the Shoregals will be challenged by the Avon Eagles and Olmsted Falls Bulldogs. Avon Lake sophomore Lily Dorsey had a huge freshman season and will be in the top spot in 2025. Seniors Reese Thomas and Emma Fitch will lead the Eagles while juniors Addison Mullen and Ashley Veverka will join senior Mya Hovan for the Bulldogs. All three schools have a legitimate chance to win the SWC this season. The next tier of schools include Berea-Midpark, Amherst, Midview, and North Ridgeville. The Rangers will look to improve under new head coach Casey Bernhardt.

Once again, 2024 will most likely be a two team race in the Southwestern Conference between the Eagles of Avon and the Shoregals of Avon Lake. Avon Lake has pulled out the conference championship the last two years, while Avon won the year before. Avon Lake will be top-heavy, with likely conference player of the year Olivia Tobin leading the way. Avon will bring a more balanced attack as they will have a little more depth in their lineup. One challenger to those two teams could be Olmsted Falls, a team featuring some young players with high upsides. The Bulldogs are the only other team to win an SWC title in the past decade, as they won the conference in 2020. The rest of the league will see a fight between Midview, North Ridgeville, Berea-Midpark, Amherst, and Elyria.

Coach’s Comments- This season there are 25 girls trying out for a spot on our team, the most in our program’s history. I am excited that our program continues to grow and we are bringing in some young talent. I’d like to see us take a step forward competitively in our conference during the 2024 season. Look out for returning Varsity players Aubrey Caraballo (12), Addison Mullen (10), and Ashley Veverka (10), as well as potential new Varsity players Mya Hovan (11) and Lily Andrich (9) to lead our team this season. Liz Gaal (12), Rachael Price (12), and Lyla Williams (12) also bring some Varsity experience to the party as well.

Avon and Avon Lake have battled back and forth the past few years for supremacy in the Southwestern Conference. That trend appears to continue in 2023. Avon Lake returns all of their scoring players while Avon will be losing some key contributors. Olmsted Falls has some young talent coming up and will look to create a foundation based off those freshmen. North Ridgeville will have a lot of talent to replace if they want to contend this season. Amherst and Midview will both also have a say in the SWC this year. Berea-Midpark and Elyria will both be trying to add depth to their programs.

Excited to see how returning Varsity starters Ella Atkins and Aubrey Caraballo perform, as well as a bunch of fresh new faces including sophomore Mya Hovan and incoming freshmen Ashley Veverka and Addison Mullen.
