2025 Western Reserve Conference Preview

Regardless of what happens this season, 2025 will be the last year of the Kenston dynasty in the Western Reserve Conference. The league will be breaking up after this season with each team going in their own direction. Kenston would like nothing more than to walk away with their fifth straight conference championship. It looks to again be a very close race that will develop between the Bombers and the Mayfield Wildcats. A third team that will be in the mix is Riverside, who will only be in their second year as a program. Kenston returns juniors Ava Solak and Stefania Mighton, both players that have contributed in the past and will continue to in the future. Mayfield junior Julie Paradise will be at the top of their lineup and will have help from seniors Lucy Moran, Hannah Kasprisin, and Kendall Peugeot. Riverside has a stellar junior class featuring Sydney Barker, Kaylee Naymik, and Kaylee Kirk. They got better and better as the season progressed last year and they are already in a position to be competitive in the conference. Chardon looks to be the next team up behind the three top contenders. Eastlake North will begin the post-Lauren Iannetta years and Willoughby South will be in growth mode.

2024 Western Reserve Conference Preview

The Western Reserve Conference could end up being a very competitive two team race in 2024. There are many young players, especially sophomores, to watch as the conference season progresses. Returning champion Kenston will face a significant challenge from the Mayfield Wildcats at the top of the conference. Kenston has a deeper lineup than Mayfield but the Wildcats have a little more star power at the top, especially after the special rookie year of Julie Paradise. Willoughby South could be more of a factor than they have in the past. Chardon is never a team to take lightly but they will need to improve from their effort last season. Eastlake North will have the best player in the conference, senior Lauren Iannetta, who could single-handedly make the Rangers competitive in the league. Another ripple in the conference is the Riverside Beavers, who haven’t had a full team in the past, but are building toward something that could be special. They will be a team to look out for as their program grows.

Western Reserve Conference Preview

With the departure of Madison, the Western Reserve Conference will be down to five teams in 2023. Kenston is the defending champion but will need to surround returning player Annika Tutzer with some young talent in order to repeat. Mayfield finished second, but lost team leader Jillian Gambino to graduation. Incoming freshman Julie Paradise has good talent, but Gambino leaves big shoes to fill. Eastlake North returns District qualifier Lauren Iannetta and will challenge Kenston and Mayfield for the league crown. Chardon also will make their voice heard in the WRC as they will have potentially the deepest team in the conference. Willoughby South also has a chance to have an impact in the conference if they can find some improvement from last year. The WRC looks to be wide open for the taking this year and will prove to be one of the better conference races to watch.
